　　Tata Steel, Posco likely to bid for Essar Steel

　　塔塔钢铁，浦项可能竞购埃萨钢铁

■ Days after Essar Group completed the sale of its oil business to the consortium led by Russian oil major Rosneft, major steel companies expressed interest in buying the vexed Essar Steel, owned by Ruia family-controlled conglomerate.

■ 在埃萨集团向俄罗斯最大的石油生产商——俄罗斯石油公司(Rosneft)为主的财团出售其石油业务的交易完成后，多家主要钢铁公司表示有兴趣收购陷入困境的埃萨钢铁。目前埃萨钢铁的控制人是Ruia家族。

■ The country's second largest private steel manufacturer, Tata Steel has expressed interest in bidding for debt-ridden Essar Steel, the Economic Times reported. Currently, Essar Steel is facing insolvency proceedings after it failed to pay debt around Rs 37,000 crore to banks.

■ 根据印度经济时报的报道，印度第二大私有钢铁生产商——塔塔钢铁表示有兴趣收购深受债务困扰的埃萨钢铁。目前，因埃萨钢铁无法向银行偿付多达3700亿卢比的债务而面临破产清算。

■ ET in its report quoted a senior executive of one of the Essar saying, "Tata Steel has informally conveyed to us their interest in bidding for Essar Steel." The business daily further quoted an investment banker familiar with the development, who said Chandrasekaran is keen to get back the 'top steelmaker' tag, which it lost to JSW Steel.

■ Betting on the government's spending on infrastructure projects, specifically to build affordable homes, Tata Steel had earlier expressed its interest to grow the business, both by expanding capacity and by acquiring financially stressed companies.

■ Other than Essar Steel's debt, the healthy EBITDA per tonne and the company's geographical presence are attracting multiple suitors, an ET Now report said.

■ When contacted, Posco India Chairman and Managing Director Gee Woong Sung said, "We don't have a formal position on this right now."

■ If Posco bids for Essar Steel, the deal would benefit Posco in boosting its India plans. Posco came to India with plans for a mega steel plant, but the plans took a bit hit. It had signed a deal with the Odisha government in 2005 for a 12-million-tonne steel plant. But protests over land acquisition and change in mining policies put the project on the backburner.

■ At present, Posco has a cold rolling and galvanising project in Mangaon, Maharashtra, with a capacity of 0.45 million tonne for coated steel and 1.8 million tonnes for cold rolled steel. The unit supplies products to automotive customers.

■ 目前，浦项在印度的马哈拉施特拉邦建有冷轧和镀锌项目，拥有镀锌板年产能45万吨，冷轧钢板产能180万吨。目前该项目向汽车用户提供产品。

■ Other bidders for Essar Steel, which has a capacity of 10 million tonnes, could be ArcelorMittal and JSW Steel.
